This pig farrowing house in Lancashire has been designed to use Global Energy Systems' Eco Air Boiler heat pumps though the installation of heat pads in the floor of each rearing crate. The young piglets are kept at a steady, optimal temperature by the under floor heating method, outlining one of the most efficient methods of heat delivery from a heat pump. Through the winter of 2010/11, the system guaranteed perfect growing conditions with an average 1 extra piglet surviving per litter and the litters gaining weight faster. The Eco Air Boiler heat pump has helped to increase the yield of the farrowing house by up to 10%

On top of the increases in the productivity of the new farrowing house the use of a high performance heat pump has brought enormous savings in running costs. During the winter of 2010/11 an average daily cost of just £3.20 was recorded, this compares to an estimated cost of £40 a day if traditional heating lamps were used.
